At Venus Legal, we are proud to have secured our first redress settlement for a survivor of historic abuse, marking a significant moment not only for our client but also for the work we do in supporting survivors seeking justice.
For our client, this outcome represents far more than financial compensation. It is a step towards acknowledgement and the opportunity to move forward after decades of trauma.
The case relates to abuse suffered in a children’s home many years ago. Recently, the issue returned to public attention after two former nuns and a retired support worker were convicted of abusing vulnerable children at Nazareth House homes in Scotland during the 1970s and 1980s.
Evidence heard during the criminal proceedings revealed that children entrusted to their care were subjected to cruel treatment and violence over a sustained period.
For many survivors, these events left a deep and lasting impact that have followed them throughout their lives.
While criminal proceedings can bring accountability, they do not always address the long-term harm experienced by survivors. This is where redress and civil claims can play an important role.
Supporting our clients and turning Lives Around.
At Venus Legal, we supported our client through the redress process from the very beginning, helping them navigate what can often be a complex and emotional journey.
Historic abuse cases require not only legal expertise, but also sensitivity, patience and trust. Many survivors have carried their experiences for decades before feeling able to speak about what happened.
Our role is to ensure that survivors feel heard, supported and empowered through the process. For our client, securing this settlement has been truly life changing. It represents recognition of the harm they endured and provides a sense of justice that was denied to them for many years.
Why this matters.
It matters because survivors can seek acknowledgement and accountability from the institutions responsible for their care.
For many survivors, the process is not simply about compensation. It can be about, being believed, having their experiences formally recognised and finding closure after years of silence. It can also help survivors access practical support and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.
Helping other survivors come forward.
Sadly, cases of historic abuse within institutions such as children’s homes are not isolated. Many individuals may still be living with the consequences of abuse they suffered decades ago.
At Venus Legal, we understand that coming forward can be incredibly difficult and survivors may feel uncertain about what options are available to them. Our team are committed to providing confidential, compassionate and expert support to anyone considering pursuing a claim.
If you or someone you know experienced abuse in a children’s home or similar institution, you do not have to face it alone.
